More Schools Get Cooking
21st January 2011
The third phase of the Let’s Get Cooking Programme in schools was launched this week.
Here are the schools that are taking part:
Sacred Heart School, Beck Primary School, Carfield Primary School, Carterknowle Primary School, Coit Primary School, Deepcar St. John Primary School, Dobcroft Infant School, Dore Primary School, Hucklow Primary School, Portercroft Primary School, Pye Bank Primary School, Westways Primary School, Greengate Lane Primary School.
This programme supports schools to deliver cooking clubs with the aim to help children experience new healthy foods and to take their knowledge home to get adults cooking too. As part of the programme schools have to deliver 3 community events each year and the schools in phases 1 and 2 have used their imagination to make these events as exciting as possible. The training for Let’s Get Cooking co-ordinators and helpers has been funded by Sheffield Let’s Change for Life and the Let’s get cooking programme are evaluating and monitoring the progress of the cooking clubs. One of the targets of the Let’s Get Cooking Programme is by the end of the five-year programme 1,106,300 children, family members and members of the local community will increase their food preparation or cooking skills as a result of Let’s Get Cooking. Funding to help schools with their start up costs comes from the National Lottery.
Why not go to the Let’s Get Cooking website? There are great recipe cards that you can download for yourself and your family as well as for use at school.
