How does The Big Pedal work?
- Once you register, we’ll send you a big, eye-catching wall-chart so everyone can follow progress.
- To race, simply encourage as many pupils, parents and staff to ride in.
- Keep a log and enter your daily figures on The Big Pedal website.
PRIZES that students (and schools) will love
Most children want to cycle to school (we know because we asked ’em!) so use this opportunity to help them do it, en masse. What’s more, children who have recently completed Bikeability training will immediately be able to put their knowledge to use and develop their cycling skills further.
First prize: a bicycle stunt show by the M.A.D team riders and two Land Rover bikes
Second prize: Innovative bike/scooter storage from Cyclepods
Daily and regional prizes: Aplenty – watch this space!

The Big Pedal is powered by Sustrans and funded by the Bike Hub. The Bike Hub’s levy scheme is an industry-wide initiative developed by The Bicycle Association of Great Britain and the Association of Cycle Traders. The Bike Hub aims to generate funds from within the cycle industry to support the future of UK cycling.
Bikeability is the national cycle training scheme, based on the National Standard for Cycle Training, which is shared by all UK governments. More than 300,000 children learn to cycle the Bikeability way each year, and this number is still increasing as it spreads to all parts of the United Kingdom.
