Healthy Urban Planner

Our local neighbourhoods and the environment in which we live and work has a huge affect on how we live our lives. Almost every planning decision has a potential impact on our health.

The places that we live and work in have a huge impact on how we live our lives. Simple things like having safe, good quality parks and open spaces near to where you live or being able to walk to the local shops or school can greatly affect our ability to be healthy.

One of the challenges for planners in Sheffield is making sure that as the city changes in the future, we have the right planning policies in place to make sure that people across the city have these sorts of opportunities.

Planning policies in Sheffield are currently in the process of being re-written to form the Sheffield Development Framework. The key role of the Healthy Urban Planner is to take this unique opportunity to make sure that health is a central part of this, and that policies are developed that will help create healthier places.

Planners in Sheffield are in the process of drafting new policies that will set out how development should look in Sheffield in the future, so there’s a fantastic opportunity to make sure that we develop policies that will help to create an environment that allows everyone to lead a healthier lifestyle.
