Breastfeeding Friendly Award
Sheffield has a goal of becoming a breastfeeding friendly city by 2012. In order to achieve this status we have identified that mothers need to feel more confident about choosing to breastfeed.
The Sheffield Breastfeeding Friendly Award recognises public places and workplaces which offer a good level of facilities and support for breastfeeding mothers and their families.
The Award offers reassurance to mothers that they will be able to breastfeed their child in comfort and with full support of the staff and venue.
Who can apply for the award
Any public place which breastfeeding mothers are likely to use e.g. shops, libraries, leisure centres, cafes, community centres.
Any workplace who would like to help their employees to sustain breastfeeding following their return to work from maternity leave.
How the Sheffield public can help
Please let us know if there is somewhere you would like to see achieve the award, either because of the facilities and support they already offer to breastfeeding mums or because of improvements you would like to see them make.
Achieving the Sheffield Breastfeeding Friendly Award
- Award holders will benefit from positive promotion in the City to include press releases and listings within breastfeeding friendly directories.
- Businesses will be provided with promotional materials to advertise their involvement with the award and to explain why they are supportive of breastfeeding mums.
- There are no fees involved at any stage of the awards process.

Find activities in your area
Hi Clare,Hope this reaches you ok.
I’m manager at The Greystones public house on Greystones Road S11 and would like to be considered as breastfeeding friendly pub. Hannah Melia sent me an email and suggested we be considered as a venue for breastfeeding mums who live in this area and need a friendly venue for meetings and such like.
Cheers,
Mike
