Training

Do you want to understand more about childhood obesity and how it can be addressed in a non judgemental manner? Make sure you register for one of our free awareness sessions available to Sheffield professionals who work with children and families.

At these sessions you will learn about common misconceptions about overweight and obesity, improving your knowledge about the issue and increasing your confidence in talking about the subject.

The sessions are being held throughout the Sheffield area, in many different locations, throughout 2010 and early 2011.  There’s bound to be one that is convenient for you.

Each event can be tailored to fit the needs of your workforce. See below for more information on the types of sessions we offer.

Brief: Our 1 hour information sessions are ideal for professionals who do not directly deal with obesity in their work role but feel they would benefit from additional information and learning about childhood obesity. These sessions will cover general themes including: awareness raising and breaking any misconceptions of obesity, a brief overview of existing knowledge linked to healthy living and obesity related issues and a signposting session to raise awareness of supporting services local to Sheffield.

Core: The 3 hour core session for professionals is suitable for those who wish to gain a better understanding of the perception of obesity, the causes and consequences, why it is important and how to communicate concerns.  In this session, you will cover misperceptions, causes and consequences, and communication of the issue. There will be an interactive element relevant to your area of work. This session is ideal for professionals who are directly tackling obesity issues and need an in depth introduction to the subject and support on tackling the issues.

Enhanced

An Enhanced session is a 3 hour programme for professionals, building on the knowledge gained in the Core session. The Core session is a compulsory pre-requisite for this session.  This session follows general themes with the flexibility to address more bespoke topics within these, addressing the core issues faced by the target audience when tackling overweight and obesity within their role/remit.

Workplace: We are currently running workplace session for Sheffield companies who are committed to the Sheffield Lets Change4Life Business Champion programme. To find out what sessions are available, please contact Sophie Sanderson.

Each session will be individually tailored to suit each workplace and will cover general themes including: awareness raising and breaking any misconceptions of obesity and an overview of the issues and challenges surrounding healthy living and obesity

There are 4 options for workplace sessions: Generic Workshop, Health Assessment, Management Consultation or a Bespoke Workshop.  The Generic Workshop would provide an overview of the issues and challenges surrounding healthy living and obesity; the Health Assessment would be a one hour walk in clinic where staff could drop in for a health assessment and advice on signposting, and the Management Consultation would be a 1 hour meeting with senior management to assess the occupational health concerns within their workplace, with a follow up report and recommendations. The Bespoke Workshop would be influenced by the responses from a workplace questionnaire that would be distributed prior to the event (this session could also include an optional 30 minute health assessment on the end) and a consultation meeting may take place with senior management to agree how to tackle the results in the questionnaire within the bespoke session. Workplaces can choose up to 2 of the above options.
