Fun & healthy awareness sessions
Information for parents & families

Whether you are worried about your own child, someone else’s, or you simply want to understand more about childhood obesity and how it can be addressed, then make sure you come along to one of our free awareness sessions.

Fun, factual and totally non judgemental, the sessions focus on how making simple changes to families’ diets and lifestyles, can have a dramatic impact on the health of everyone – particularly children and young people.

The sessions are being held throughout the Sheffield area, in many different locations, throughout 2010 and early 2011.  There’s bound to be one that is convenient for you.

Although the events will have different formats (see below), they all focus on arming attendees with practical support, information and advice to help make a positive difference to the health of their families.

Parent Sessions

Do you want to know more about childhood obesity and what you can do to help your family? We are holding awareness raising sessions for parents at venues across Sheffield. These sessions aim to address any misconceptions about obesity with an interactive demonstration and an open forum for discussion around the topic followed by a Q&A session, and guidance on tackling the weight conversation.  There is also the opportunity to find out more about the National Child Measurement Programme and what it means for you and your family. There will be signposting information for relevant services local to Sheffield. This session is suitable for all e.g. dads, mums, grandparents, foster parents etc.

Information sessions for parents will be available from September, keep checking the website for further information or register your interest in attending a session by emailing parents@leedsmet.ac.uk or text PARENT and your NAME to 88020

Family Focus Sessions

Have you already attended an information session at work or in the city? Do you want to find out more information on how to lead a healthy lifestyle as a whole family?

Our FAMILY sessions are designed for families who have made a conscious decision to make a change and want to take positive steps forward t o achieve this.  The sessions will start with a general awareness raising and information session, followed by engaging activities for both parents and children and signposting to various services within the Sheffield area.  There will also be an optional weighing and measuring service available at the end.

To register your interest please email h.percy@leedsmet.ac.uk

Public Open Spaces Sessions

Far larger than the above sessions, these roadshow style events will be held in public open spaces, such as parks, sports stadiums and shopping centres, with the focus once again on family fun. There’ll be entertainment, games and the chance to try out different physical activities, along with dietary advice and information from the experts.

To register your interest please email h.percy@leedsmet.ac.uk
