What is the Sheffield Family Community Garden?

Girl picking tomatoesIt is a space for you and your family to learn about and grow fruit and vegetables in a family friendly atmosphere. Located off Morley Street in Walkley, the garden will be designed with the participation of families and young people specifically to meet their needs.

This project is for families new to growing their own food. To be eligible for this project you must be referred by your school or by your ‘watch it’ group leader’. A staff member who has skills in growing will be available at certain times and for training sessions to help families at the site.

Why take up this opportunity?

Families taking part in the project will get:

  • The chance to influence the design of the new Family Garden to be created.
  • A space of their own to grow fruit and vegetables, from small raised beds to bigger areas.
  • The completed site will have toilets, baby changing facilities and storage space.
  • The chance to spend time with your family in the fresh air learning new skills and getting your own home grown food to enjoy at the end of it.
  • Support and training to see you through from preparing the ground, sowing and planting your crop, to storing and cooking your fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • To have fun and try new things!
