School children gardeningDoes your child/ren or Grand child/ren go to a Healthy School? Many schools across Sheffield have achieved National Healthy Schools Status and are building on this work with help from the Sheffield – Let’s Change for Life Programme. All Sheffield schools are being offered funding to set up healthy cookery clubs and fruit/vegetable growing areas to help children and young people to understand where food comes from and learn basic cookery skills. Why not ask your local school if they are involved?

We are also supporting schools to improve their school meals and lunchtime experience; this also includes encouraging parents/carers to send their children to school with a healthy lunchbox.

Why not ask if you can be involved. This could be through helping schools to review their school food policy or maybe helping out with an after school club so more children can take part in exercise and fun activities.

Eating well and taking part in regular exercise is important for our children not only to be healthy but also to learn and behave better in school. This will help them to concentrate, feel less tired and enjoy learning.
